The Sync Connector
The Sync Connector is the App which pulls the emails down from our cloud servers and onto your storage.
There are two variations of the Sync Connector, one runs as a Windows Service and is known and the SERVICE variant and the other runs as a desktop application and is known as the NODE variant.
As a general rule, if you only need to sync to your own network drives, the SERVICE variance is best whereas if you need to sync to SharePoint, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box, Egnyte, ProjectWise and other third-party systems, the NODE one is best.
Both are available on the Installers page - be sure to read the guidance on that page.
Before you install one of these, first file at least one email to a real location
- We want to test that the Sync Connector is working correctly, so before you install it, file one or more emails to a real location and not the TESTING one, which is useless to us here because it doesn’t have a sync path assigned to it
- Having created a proper filing location and filed some emails to it, you should now install the most appropriate variant of the Sync Connector – if you are unsure which one to install, speak with us
- Be sure to note the installation details on the Installers page – you will need to drop in its license file and be sure to make a note of where it is installed and where it writes its log file (they don’t log to the same folders)
- Be sure to read the Help documentation here too File Sync Service
You may need to manually start or re-start it
If you are running the SERVICE variant, you may find that the very first time that it runs it fails to read its licence file currently, so you may need to pop into the Services App and restart it. Similarly, you may need to set it to run as a domain user so that it can access all the storage.
If you are running the NODE variant, please note that it won’t run immediately after installation, but will have been added to the Windows Start-up group so that it starts when you log into that machine. To save you having to log out and back in, just browse into it’s installed folder (see the details on the Installers page) and then double-click the EXE.
You should then find that the filed emails appear in their destination folders.
If there are problems, check the log file. In 99.99% of cases the problems are either that the sync path of the location is not correct or the user account under which the sync connector is running does not have access to the destination.
If you need our help, send us an email and be sure to include the log file.
