Importing legacy data
There are many ways to import legacy emails into CloudFiler and we can’t cover them all in detail here, so you may need to arrange a discussion with a CloudFiler expert who can guide you.
Import tools
We provide two import tools, the Bulk Uploader which is approaching retirement and the Bulk Importer which will replace it.
The Bulk Uploader is a separately installed application which you can find on the Installers page. It requires your tenant key which will have been emailed to you with the manifest file.
The Bulk Importer is available on the Hub’s right-click menu for those who are Admins.
Import Methods
Both of these tools can import emails that:
- Are defined in Mail Manager .mmcollection files
- At the time of writing support for SharePoint locations is limited
- Are defined in Excitech Mail or Pentagon Mail Assistant group files
- At the time of writing support for SharePoint locations is limited
- Are in structured Windows Folders
- Are defined in an XLSX file
Importing confidential locations
Both of the uploading tools provide the option to first create the locations without importing emails into them. So if you have confidential locations:
- When importing, use the Create Location option to create the location first without uploading the emails
- Secure the location so that it’s only accessible to the right staff (details in the section below)
- You can now import the emails knowing that they are invisible to others
Next Steps include:
If your emails are in Public Folders
If your emails are in Outlook folders
If your emails are in Shared Folders
If you don’t have Mail Manager, Excitech Mail or Pentagon Mail Assistant any more
If your folders are deeply nested
You either continue through these or jump straight to: Securing confidential locations
